From Goat Rearer to Master Trainer: Namita’s Story

Namita Tandi, now a Master Trainer in goatery for her block.

Namita Tandi once depended on farming and goat rearing like everyone around her. A training of trainers programme on goatery changed that – turning her into a Master Trainer for her block.

Like most families in Khaliakani, Namita relied on farming and goat rearing for her livelihood. She had practical experience but no formal training – and no way to turn her knowledge into a wider role or additional income for her family.

Namita attended a training of trainers programme on goatery in Bhubaneswar, where she gained technical knowledge on goat rearing along with the skills to teach it to others. The training turned her into a Master Trainer, equipped to reach farmers and aspiring ecopreneurs across several villages in her block.

Namita has since trained farmers in many nearby villages, demonstrating low-cost ethnoveterinary practices using materials easily available at home. Farmers are adopting these methods and reducing costs while improving income. The work has given Namita a new identity in her community, and an additional source of income of her own.
