Overview

The Focused Development Project in Maharashtra brings watershed-based natural resource management to Peth block of Nashik district, one of the state’s most vulnerable tribal regions. Supported by HDFC Bank Parivartan from October 2025 to September 2028, the programme aims to strengthen water security and livelihoods for around 3,000 households across 25 villages.

Following scientific ridge-to-valley watershed planning principles, the project has built community ownership from the outset, involving villagers in construction and maintenance of assets. In its first year, three check dams, a gabion structure and a desilted percolation tank have together created over 13,469 cubic metres of additional water storage.

Key Strategies

Apply scientific ridge-to-valley watershed planning principles across the block
Build community participation from planning through to execution
Strengthen village-level institutions for sustainable natural resource management
Focus implementation on vulnerable, forest-dominated tribal regions
